Manchester Shoot 2

I did this shoot to express the chosen them of urban surroundings that show neglect and signs of recession. I also took this shoot to respond to the artists: Saul Leiter and Marcin Stawiarz. For this shoot I used my Nikon D3200 digital camera. I then picked out some images and edited them using Photoshop. I cropped them, changed levels, contrast/brightness, desaturation, saturation and sharpening when needed. I changed my ISO to 400 while on the shoot so plenty of light would appear in my image. At the start of the shoot my shutter speed was 1/80 sec and the aperture was 4.5. But as it was getting darker my shutter speed 1/100 sec and the aperture was 4.8 this was because more light needed to get to the image. I took this shoot around Manchester to show examples of neglect and recession. I did this by taking photos of the Northern Quarter of Manchester where there are more abandoned and not looked after places. The strengths of this shoot are: the photos showing cracks in glass and street lamps showing different commercial stuff layered on top of each other. The weaknesses are: that I could find more abandoned buildings to take photos of. The artist listed above influenced me. I found this shoot to be quite fun and free because I was taking photos of buildings and neglected things.

Sellotape Prints For Risk Project (Core Work)

For these I used: sellotape, masking tape, parcel paper, thread, fabric, tissue paper, ink and letter printing blocks. I created mixed media outcomes with these. I think these are quite bold because of the colours and tones used. I placed different papers where the sellotape prints are to create emphasis on the print itself. I think these look very moody because of the coloured used. I also think these have a slightly decayed feel because of the ripped paper. The health and safety issues are that you could hurt yourself on the needles end. These experiments are based on primary imagery. I developed the first ones by creating the other three with different materials such as inks and which prints underneath. The strengths of these are the tones I created with the sallotape prints and lino prints. The areas I could improve are: that i could add more materials such as added glue entrapments on top to create different textures that are layered.

Summer Part of The Project Risk (Core Work)

During the summer I had an assignment to take photographs and to do some studies. For these I used graded pencils and a fine liner pen. These created tone to the shaded areas when needed. Above are some of the studies I did. I think these look a bit dull because of graded pencils. I used fine liner pen to define and add cross hatching for shading when needed. The graded pencils make these look moody because of the tones I used. These studies are of primary imagery I took while I was in Manchester. I think the fine liner one turned out better because it shows more details and tones. The strengths of these are the details and tones I created when using fine liner and graded pencils. I could improve these by adding more media such as charcoal and graphite.
