Photography Personal Part of Project - Heywood Shoot (Shoot 1)

I recently did a shoot around Heywood showing neglect, and recession. After taking these photos I edited some using photoshop.

Carbon Prints For Risk Project (Core Work)

These are some carbon prints I did on mixed media backgrounds. I also did one on canvas fabric and stitched into it and added wire. I also did some sewing machine work with one of my paper ones. I did this by laying down the shiny side of the carbon paper and drawing on top to create the print. I think these are quite bold because of the backgrounds and the prints. I thought of composition when setting up the background for example: put strips of sugar paper where the  windows are. There is a lot of line work in these, because of this these look quite moody. These are based on primary imagery I took in Manchester over the summer. The strengths of these are the line work and the composition of the mixed backgrounds. To improve I could to more sewing work on the machine to get  better at it.

Digital Manipulation for Risk Project (Core Work)

I combined my digital photographs with some of my core work. I combined them with my glue entrapments. To create these I used blend modes. I think these are quite bold because of the different textures and colours combined with the normal photos. These are a lot of different tones in my work such as pinks, oranges. I thought of composition when creating these because I combined the glue entrapments where they would look best on the image. The tones of these create a familiar and warm feeling because of the warm colours. These are based on primary imagery combined with my core work. I developed the images on the right by combining my glue entrapments with these using photoshop. The strengths of these are: the tones and the composition of the glue entrapments. To improve I could combine other things such as lino prints with my photographs.

Glue Entrapments For Risk Project (Core Work)

For these I used a range of materials such as: glue, sticks, string, a range of papers, broken up man made elements, inks, sellotape, and wax. With these materials I created a range of mixed media pieces based on primary and secondary imagery. I think these look bold because of the colours used such as: golds, oranges, greens, yellows. These have a lot of different textures with the wax, metal, plastic and sticks. The moods of these are calm because of the oculars used: browns, dark reds and greens. I developed the first two by creating the third, these have more colour and composition consideration. The strengths of these are the textures and media used. To improve I could do some more were I considered the colours and composition more.

Creating Text And Lettering For Risk Project (Core Work)

For these I used a range of papers, pencil crayons, acrylic paint, chalk, glue and letter stencils. With these materials I created experimental mixed media letter responses. These look very decayed and have a natural feel because of the colours used: browns, rushy copper, and beige. I think these look quite bold too because of the arrangement of the materials. I combined many materials and letters to create abstract responses. The ripped paper make these looked decayed. Also the layering created lots of textures. The strengths of these are the composition of the letters and materials. To improve these I could combine these with some of my other work to create primary responses with lettering.

Sellotape Prints For Risk Project (Core Work)

For these I used: sellotape, masking tape, parcel paper, thread, fabric, tissue paper, ink and letter printing blocks. I created mixed media outcomes with these. I think these are quite bold because of the colours and tones used. I placed different papers where the sellotape prints are to create emphasis on the print itself. I think these look very moody because of the coloured used. I also think these have a slightly decayed feel because of the ripped paper. The health and safety issues are that you could hurt yourself on the needles end. These experiments are based on primary imagery. I developed the first ones by creating the other three with different materials such as inks and which prints underneath. The strengths of these are the tones I created with the sallotape prints and lino prints. The areas I could improve are: that i could add more materials such as added glue entrapments on top to create different textures that are layered.

Summer Part of The Project Risk (Core Work)

During the summer I had an assignment to take photographs and to do some studies. For these I used graded pencils and a fine liner pen. These created tone to the shaded areas when needed. Above are some of the studies I did. I think these look a bit dull because of graded pencils. I used fine liner pen to define and add cross hatching for shading when needed. The graded pencils make these look moody because of the tones I used. These studies are of primary imagery I took while I was in Manchester. I think the fine liner one turned out better because it shows more details and tones. The strengths of these are the details and tones I created when using fine liner and graded pencils. I could improve these by adding more media such as charcoal and graphite.
